Köln CC have cruised to victory in the final of Germany’s Regionalliga West against HSRW and are now due to make a return to the region’s premier cricket competition, the Bundesliga West, next season
In the match on September 3 at Chorweiler cricket ground, Köln was sent in to bat first after stand-in captain Dhruv lost the toss. Despite the absence of batting stalwart Rishi Pillai, who was away on national team duty, we still scored a modest 182 off our allotted 50 overs. Top scorer for our side was Jacky, who scored 42 and guided the team well at the end of the innings, followed by stand-in captain Dhruv who made 26.
In response, HSRW only managed 84, with Kakajan the pick of our bowlers, with an impressive 7 wickets. The win means that Koeln CC were unbeaten in 2017 in the 50-over format in the Regionalliga. The team is excited and looking forward to the challenge of next season already, where it will return to the Bundesliga West, a competition we last won in 2015.
