READ MOREKöln Kings played their second double header of the season on the 25th of July. First up were the Domstadt daredevils, who the Kings had comprehensively beaten a few weeks previously. Dhruv won the toss (to everyone's surprise) and chose to bat first even with a very heavy outfield. The Kings got off to a bad start with in-form Tejas out for a duck, caught behind off a lovely ball that swung late. Irfan and Dhruv steadied the ship with some counter-attacking batting but Irfan lost his stumps going for yet another big hit. Both Rameez and Ameya lost their wickets cheaply, leaving the kings in a spot of bother.
READ MOREThe Kings played their second match of the double header on 25th July against the Köln Challengers. After the first leg, the Challengers hoped to live up to their name, looking for revenge against the Kings. They won the toss and chose to bat first, hoping to score a lot of runs and put some pressure on the Kings' batsmen. However, their plan could not be executed due to another fine spell of fast bowling from Prateek and Appu. As usual, Prateek was unplayable while Appu was the wicket taker, picking up both the openers early. Spin duo Sandheep and Tejas then went to work on the middle order, picking wickets at regular intervals and not giving any runs away. Both bowlers picked up two wickets each. Some good fielding by both Ameya and Sandheep resulted in two run outs, ending the Challengers' innings at 66.
READ MOREThe second game of the double header on 18th July for the Köln Kings was against the Blackcap Bisons. The Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Irfan fell for a golden duck, leaving the Kings in trouble early on. Skipper Dhruv and Tejas played cautiously, trying to build a good score but the Bisons’ bowlers bowled good areas and gave nothing away. The Bisons’ captain also cleverly kept the fielders in the circle even after the powerplay overs, meaning runs were hard to come by. Dhruv fell in the 9th over with the score at only 39. Santosh and Lokesh also fell quickly thereafter, bringing Sandheep in at the 13th over.
READ MOREKöln Kings played their first double header of the season on the 18th of July, facing their old adversary Köln Challengers for the first game. The Challengers won the toss and decided to bat first, knowing they would have to bat extremely well to counter the Kings’ potent bowling attack. Veteran pace bowler Appu continued his fine form, getting rid of the opener Sriram with a lovely ball that swung away late. Prateek bowled some vicious out-swingers at the other end, making it very difficult for the batsmen to even connect bat on ball. Appu was replaced by left-arm spinner Sandheep, who bowled good areas and kept the pressure on the batsmen.
READ MOREKöln Kings played their third game of the t-20 season on the 11th of July against the Dormstadt Daredevils. The Daredevils won the toss and elected to field first. Irfan and Tejas again got the team off to a good start, scoring at 6 runs per over, though they were helped by plenty of wides from the erratic Daredevils bowlers. The heavy outfield also meant boundaries were difficult to come by. Irfan lost his wicket just after the powerplay, bringing skipper Dhruv to the crease.
READ MOREKöln Kings played their second game of the t-20 tournament on 03/07/2021. A tough game was on the cards, with their opponents Bayer Boosters having defeated them in the recently concluded ECS t-10 tournament. Captain Dhruv Patel won the toss and elected to bat first. Tejas and Irfan got the team off to a good start again, taking the team’s score to 68 before Irfan lost his stumps trying to slog medium pacer Vaka over mid-wicket, having scored 42 off only 28 balls. Dhruv fell shortly thereafter, cutting the ball straight into the hands of the point fielder. In came Satya, who was cautious at the start, rotating the strike regularly with Tejas, ensuring the run rate stayed over 6 per over.
