First step towards the title!

Greetings to all the cricket lovers and non-cricket lovers out there. After digesting the last year's bitter campaign which led Köln CC being the runner's up in the 50 overs Bundesliga league, Köln CC regrouped again with the ultimate goal to rectify their mistakes by coming back stronger and win the title this year.

On April 14th 2019, Köln CC played their first game against a newly promoted team from Regionaliga known as Aachen Rising Stars, on a rather cloudy and stormy day, and won it comprehensively in the end by 62 runs.

Köln CC were put into bat by Aachen Rising Stars, where the veteran Irfan and a new recruit Yash gave a tough time to the Aachen bowling attack in an opening stand of 78 runs that lasted for 18 overs. Irfan played his strokes freely right from the beginning whereas on the other hand, Yash was happy playing the supporting role by either giving him the strike or hitting occasional beauties to the boundary

During the first 18 overs, Aachen's bowling looked average with an exception of Ahmed Shah who was constantly keeping the batsman in the check by bowling his surprising bouncers and slower ones. Despite his effort with the ball, both Irfan and Yash had put enough runs on the board until Irfan lost his eye and got out during the 18th over. Irfan scored 41 of 25 balls.

The fall of first wicket made way for Naseer Zadran. Unfortunately, Yash lost his temperament and gifted his wicket in going to chase the ball away from the body. At this point of time, Aachen could have pulled the match into their favour however, next-in was Köln CC captain Dhruv Patel who along with Naseer made sure that they don't. Dhruv and Naseer lacked boundaries in their partnership but kept the run rate going by running singles and doubles. Naseer couldn't resist his urge of hitting a boundary and missed the ball completely where he was deceived in the flight by Adeeb Asghar.

Dhruv and Rahul Patel took the innings forward by playing cautiously with odd boundaries and sharp running between the wickets. Eventually, Dhruv got out on 44 playing across and was given leg before wicket (LBW) in the bowling of Muaaz Hasan. Then came the veteran wicket-keeper batsman Satya Srinivas who took the innings further and put a partnership of 37 vital runs with Rahul. Both Satya and Rahul were sent back to the pavilion by Aachen on the same team score of 217. Altogether, due to the short cameo's from Jagdish Chaturvedi, Shahvali Mosavi and Appu Muraleedharan, Köln CC managed to put a formidable target of 263 for Aachen.

During the chase, Aachen lost their first three wickets in quick succession at a score of 17 runs, where Naseer took two scalps while Muhammad Sharjeel Arshad took one. The pick of the batsman was Muaaz Hasan who anchored his innings around the inexperienced middle order of Aachen and later had an eventful partnership with Mohammad Rahim and added a valuable 80 odd runs to their total. During this time, Rahul bowled cunningly by varying his pace and completed his quota of 10 overs by taking two wickets and only giving 26 runs. Both Rahim and Muaaz were dismissed by Sharjeel who ended up taking three wickets in the end. Muaaz scored 72 runs of 85 deliveries while Rahim scored a quick 46 in 36 balls. Lastly, the tail was exploited by Jimit Patel who took two quick wickets by spinning the web of spin.
