Game 5 : T20 Pokal 2021

Köln Cricket Club

The second game of the double header on 18th July for the Köln Kings was against the Blackcap Bisons. The Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Irfan fell for a golden duck, leaving the Kings in trouble early on. Skipper Dhruv and Tejas played cautiously, trying to build a good score but the Bisons’ bowlers bowled good areas and gave nothing away. The Bisons’ captain also cleverly kept the fielders in the circle even after the powerplay overs, meaning runs were hard to come by. Dhruv fell in the 9th over with the score at only 39. Santosh and Lokesh also fell quickly thereafter, bringing Sandheep in at the 13th over. Tejas was not at his fluent best, meaning the pair had to scrap for their runs, mainly in singles and twos, taking to score to 89 before Sandheep fell in the 18th over. A few big hits from Ameya and tejas towards the end of the innings brought the score to a respectable 110 in 20 overs. It was another excellent innings from Tejas, who showed his quality by batting through the innings for the team in a tough situation.

The Kings had to bowl well to restrict the Bisons and they did just that, with pacers Appu and Prateek too hot to handle for the openers. Prateek removed opener Sanil early caught behind and runs were hard to come by. The Bisons batsmen were gaining some momentum before a superb over from Satheesh “Hazlewood” Rathinaswamy wrecked their innings, bowling two beauties to get rid of opener Harshit and then Sudipro. Spinner Sandheep kept up the pressure at the other end, with Ameya replacing Sateesh “Hazelwood” at the other end. He did not disappoint, bowling a probing and dangerous spell, getting good pace and zip off the wicket. He was justly rewarded with three wickets, one that included a terrific diving catch by Santosh at point. Grinesh, Appu and Sandheep wrapped up the innings again with the Bisons all out for 61 in 17.2 overs. It was another classy bowling performance from the Kings, saving their team from what could have been a tight game.
