Köln Kings played their first game of the 2021 T20 season against Golden Star Commets on the 19th of June. Skipper Dhruv Patel lost the toss and Köln Kings were put in to bat first. Openers Irfan and Tejas got the team off to a good start, scoring briskly before Irfan fell slashing to extra cover.
Dhruv Patel fell shortly after but Satya helped steady the ship. A late blitz from Ameya combined with the classy batting of Tejas, who played through the innings to score 75*, meant Köln Kings posted a daunting score of 186 in their 20 overs.
The second innings was delayed due to technical reasons, and some dodgy math from the umpires meant Golden Star Commets had a chance to get back in the game, requiring 75 runs in 8 overs. However, new recruit Prateek and veteran fast bowler Appu ensured they were never in the game, picking up wickets at regular intervals and not giving any runs away.
Golden-arm Tejas also picked up two wickets to end Golden Star Commets innings at 31 runs in their 8 overs, with 7 wickets down. It was a good victory for Köln Kings, but they are well aware that tougher challenges await them in the near future.
